I thought I’d veer away from childbirth to show you how splendid my girls look in their JoJo Maman Bebe wetsuits. We are playing on Harris in the Outer Hebrides, and for those people who may think Britain does not have good beaches, then you’d be hard pushed to find a beach as vast and as empty as Scarista. This is a three mile stretch of sand, surf and dunes and today we were sharing it with no more than five families. The only problem is – as we overheard in the local fish restaurant – if you are driving from England it takes you longer to reach the Outer Hebrides than Dubai but it’s totally worth it.
Yes, we may not be joining in with the heatwave but this is what we’ve done…
- spent whole days playing on white sand beaches and wave jumping in crystal clear water,
- invited to look around a RNLI life boat (very interesting, for example, they can self-right in under a minute),
- watched an Atlantic grey seal hoover up fish in the shallows
- looking forward to desecrating the stocks of Harris tweed, and perhaps most importantly really fnding ourselves being able to mentally and physical relax and switch off whilst listening to the Ashes. Perfection.
